Giving Back is a Two-way Street.
Veterans who have served in the ADF face unique challenges when returning to civilian life. Wandering Warriors is a non-profit organisation, which provides free education opportunities, welfare, respite and mentoring to Veterans.
The foundation’s has organised a number of initiatives, it most ambitious was a mega-walk, that saw dozens of veterans walk from Brisbane to Birdsville to raise money and awareness for veteran issues along the way.
Twelve special forces soldiers spent six months tramping 1600 kilometres from Brisbane to the far western town of Birdsville to raise $500,000 for wounded and war-weary comrades-in-arms.
Having served in Australian Special Operations Command and as an Officer within the Australian Special Air Service Regiment, Quentin Masson is one of the founders and the current Managing Director of Wandering Warriors.
The charity is a national Veterans organisation delivering a range of services to Australian Veterans, specifically focused on the provision of dedicated education scholarships, mentoring and respite services.
Quentin co-founded Wandering Warriors with the goal of helping his fellow Veterans succeed both academically and professionally on their return from active duty.
Quentin’s own career as an Special Operations Officer was marked by several operational deployments of distinction, during which he learned first-hand the importance of teamwork and resilience in difficult circumstances. Drawing on this experience, he now leads the charity that helps defense personnel reach their full potential.
“In my eyes, giving back is a two-way street,” says Quentin.
“I’ve seen the impact that education and community outreach can have on people both in and out of uniform,” he said.
Quentin explains, the Australian Defense Forces have produced an extensive network of successful people throughout our community who provide mentoring… this in addition to providing education programs provided through the generosity of our partner higher-education institutions, opens up opportunities for Veterans to transisiton successfully.
Wandering Warriors takes applications for their educational scholarships each year, for those in looking to transition out of the defecnse force nationally.
